I sit here in front of you, with a glass of forbidden cocktails of science and magic in my hand. My thirst for forbidden knowledge belays my insatiable curiosity. They are as everlasting as is my life as a so-called creature of the night. I blend the elixirs of scientific discovery and arcane wisdom, savoring each drop as I unravel the secrets of the universe.
Beginning Life As A Creature Of The Night
Before then, I was just like some of you, a welp of a hopeless romantic in her twenties attracted by something dark and mysterious. After that transformative relationship, the first thing I had to address was my thirst. That started out with trials and errors experimenting with my newly dead, undead body, alone in the dangerous forest, well, the now dangerous forest.
My instincts led me to one bite and one drink of an intoxicating blend of primal desire and profound fulfillment. With each sip of warm crimson life, an electric surge of energy danced along my veins, rejuvenating my immortal essence.
It was an exquisite symphony of pleasure and power, a delicate balance between the euphoria of satiating my insatiable hunger and the weight of the eternal existence I bear. In those fleeting moments, I was both predator and muse, a beautiful creature woven into the tapestry of darkness and desire.
Soon, word of my drinking reached the nearby villages and the hunt began. Every night, their marching steps scared away my food and with it, my urge to feed swelled. Whatever pieces of my humanity remained, it didn’t want anyone innocent to be drawn to me and suffer as I did.
I ran at the speed of the wind; I needed a means to redirect my thirst into something else. It was during these early years that I found solace in the depths of arcane texts. Drawn to the mystique and power that magic offered, I immersed myself in the study of various magical traditions.
Drinking The Magical Cocktail
I sought guidance from ancient magical orders, encountered wise and enigmatic mentors, and searched of lost artifacts and hidden knowledge. With each step, my understanding of magic deepened, and my connection to the arcane grew stronger.
By the 19th century, I mastered transmutations of materials which aided settlements who sought rare ingredients to cure deadly plagues and poisons. It was different as soon, I performed procedures and rituals that healed people. This new feeling of accomplishment with this knowledge was euphoric. So I decided to practice medicine.
While magic had long been a fascination for me, I realized that the mysteries of the universe were not limited to the esoteric and mystical. There was an undeniable allure in the tangible and empirical nature of scientific exploration.
Mixing The Nectars Of Science And Magic
Inspired by this revelation, I embarked on a parallel journey of scientific discovery. I immersed myself in the study of physics, chemistry, and biology, unraveling the intricacies of the natural world. I sought to unlock the secrets of the physical realm and understand the underlying mechanisms that governed its laws.
Through this fusion of disciplines, I discovered a whole new realm of possibilities. I developed innovative techniques that integrated scientific methodologies with ancient rituals. The result: a synergy that magnified the potency and precision of my magical endeavors. This integration of science and magic became my unique approach. It allowed me to expand the boundaries of what was previously thought possible.
Through the late 19th and early 20th centuries most labs I worked were dominated by male scientists. When I witnessed those scientists snuff out the science spark within women, that puzzled me. It made me wonder if there was a systemic effort to deny them their potential.
Against my better judgement, I placed these scientists under a control spell. I probed their attitudes towards women in science and learned their fears of losing their status if a woman achieved better. These irrational fears were unfounded and quite pathetic. Any real doctor or scientist would nurture talent of any gender so they can realize their true potential and gain more knowledge.
Sharing The Forbidden Cocktails Of Science And Magic With Women
At the time, I was hiding my true nature and posed as a human. So, I couldn’t openly rebel. Instead, I opened up my own lab. It was a secret safe space for women to pursue their scientific and magic interests in secret. Some of them even wanted me to make them into vampires to take the same path as I had. But I refused to do it, knowing what it would do to them.
That was not done out of hypocrisy; they were free to become whatever they wanted, they just had to find someone else who was willing to do it.
Now, you might be wondering why I joined an start-up amazonian publication as an editor. I did this partly because it tickled my interest and quenched my thirst. But more importantly, it was a means to continue supporting women in STEM education, arcane arts and paranormal industries. I know how women who are in non-traditional roles can feel like an outsider. I feel you.
